Web ChangesThis is where we'll announce the most recent additions to our web site. If you've visited us before and want to know what's changed, take a look here first. 11/6/2005 The general election results in the loss of seats to the Liberals and SNP. As in the rest of the UK the Tories made no progress, highlighting the need to reach out to the voters on the moderate left who abandoned Scottish Labour. This is the direction of travel for the 2007 manifesto. In organisation terms the election highlighted the loss of active party members. Most constituencies had only a handful of activists and even the target seats struggled. Party revitalisation is clearly more important than ever. 11/3/2005 Scottish Labour Party conference adopted the SEC report and rejected the constitutional amendment that would have allowed conference to amend final SPF reports. The movers of the amendments on debating reserved issues agreed to defer consideration. A new amendment from Glasgow Central on approving coalition agreements was tabled and will be considered at the 2006 conference. A disappointing if predictable outcome given the amount of arm twisting. The arguments from the platform were also tired and predictable. Hard to believe the party has lost half its members! In contrast speakers arguing for change highlighted the need to rebuild the party. The Revitalise fringe meeting was again well supported. 26/2/2005 Briefing on the SEC Report and a briefing on the constitutional issues raised by the Party in London. 20/2/2005 The Scottish Executive Committee, by a narrow majority, adopted a report on constitutional change to be presented to Scottish Labour Party conference. Whilst this makes some progress on the issues raised by the revitalise network it falls considerably short of the measures needed to seriously revitalise the Scottish Labour Party. The report and the constitutional amendments will be debated on the Sunday morning session of conference - 6 March 2005. 4/2/2005 Revitalise 2005 leaflet sets out the case for supporting constitutional amendments at SLP conference. Plus model constitutional amendments to strengthen accountability during coalition negotiations.
